A local workshop, not a warehouse
Preserve My Past grew out of an ordinary home technology business. We fixed computers and other domestic technology, but the same thing kept coming up on the doorstep: somebody had a box of tapes, no machine left to play them on, and nobody to ask.
It began with one customer and a carrier bag of tapes
Somebody called about a broken iMac and mentioned, almost as an afterthought, that they had some old cine reels of parents long departed and video tapes they had not been able to watch since the video recorder gave up in 2006. On them were their children as toddlers. The children now have children of their own.
Getting those video tapes and cine reels onto a memory stick took a fortnight and a lot of learning. Handing them back took about four minutes, most of which was spent watching somebody cry at a kitchen table.
That is the whole business, really. The equipment has improved considerably since. The bit at the kitchen table has not changed at all.
Four rules we do not bend
Nothing leaves the workshop
No subcontractors, no sending boxes overseas to be batch-processed. Your tapes go from your hands to us and back again.
Plain English, always
If we cannot explain what we are doing without acronyms, we are explaining it badly. Ask us anything twice; we will not mind.
The quote is the price
If a job turns out to be bigger than expected we ring you and ask. We do not discover extra costs after the work is done.
Your memories stay yours
Nothing is copied for our own use, posted online, or shown as an example without you saying yes in writing first.
Free collection locally, post in from anywhere in the UK
We are based in Whiteley and cover the surrounding areas, which means we can pick the box up ourselves and hand it back in person. A little further out, collection can usually be arranged — just ask. Further afield, our mail-in service covers the whole country, and we will talk you through packing it safely and cover the return post.
